Angelo Mangiarotti, 1990

Clizia is a sculpture with sinuous and flowing lines, contesting with the hardness of the stone which makes up this lounge piece. The carefully gauged construction has a complexity evocative of certain studies by Escher. The upper edge of the seat coincides with the lower edge, so that the monolithic sections of “Clizia” chairs are made out of the same block of marble, simultaneously creating two chairs to optimize the material and minimize waste.
