PK24™

Poul Kjærholm, 1968

OVERVIEW

The PK24™ chaise lounge chair is one of Poul Kjaerholm's most recognizable works. Inspiration for the easy curves and organic shape of the chair come from the Rococo period and the French "long chair" that featured the same curve and size. The chair is a prime, almost extreme, example of Kjaerholm's principal of designing with independent elements. The chair has no physical connection between the main parts, instead they are kept together with gravity and friction. Kjaerholm also called the PK24 the "Hammock Chair" to stress the fact the chair works to suspend the body between two points.
