Ferdinand

Ake Axelsson, 2011

OVERVIEW

The Ferdinand chair reinvigorates a classic design to create a modern icon that is inspired by elements found in the furniture of ancient Greece. Named after the protagonist in the famous children's storybook, Ferdinand the Bull, this wooden armchair is built to be sat in for long periods of time, instilling tranquility and relaxation. Ferdinand is held together by its own wood and leather due to a self-stablizing design that shapes itself to the surface on which it rests, standing steady wherever the chair is placed. The cushion is filled with vulcanised horsehair, and the leather is reversed to keep the cushion in place.
