Clizia

Angelo Mangiarotti, 1990

OVERVIEW

Clizia is a sculpture with sinuous and flowing lines, contrasting with the hardness of the stone or concrete which makes up this lounge seating piece. The carefully gauged construction has a complexity evocative of sculptural studies by Escher. The upper edge of the seat coincides with the lower edge, so that the stone versions of “Clizia” chairs are made out of the same block of marble, simultaneously creating two chairs to optimize the material and minimize waste.
