Matégot Coat Rack

Mathieu Matégot, 1950s

OVERVIEW

Mathieu Matégot utilized groundbreaking and innovative techniques to create organic forms with a light touch. The Coat Rack is an unusual and attractive alternative to the uninspiring coat racks typically found in modern entrances. An accessory as much as it is a useful object.

After studying at Budapest's school of art and architecture, Matégot created scenery and tapestries for the National Theatre. He settled in France in 1931 and after WWII, he started producing handmade furniture in Paris. In the 1950's, Matégot created various design classics.
