WITH BRONSON VAN WYCK

January 24, 2014
bronson van wyck, van wyck events, event planning nyc, modern design nyc, luxury events, corporate parties, high end wedding planner,

This fall, event planner Bronson van Wyck threw a three-day birthday party at the Mayflower Inn for SUITE NY Principal Kris Fuchs to celebrate a rather significant birthday. We were so taken with van Wyck, we couldn’t wait to interview him for our designer Round Table. NYC runs in van Wyck’s navy blue blood. He is a descendant of 1800s Manhattan mayor Robert Anderson van Wyck. He honed his planning skills coordinating receptions for diplomats at the American Embassy in Paris, before opening Van Wyck & Van Wyck over ten years ago. His list of personal clients reads like a who’s who of celebrities, politicians and socialites. For commercial events, he has thrown galas for the New York City Ballet, Rolex, The New York Public Library and Chanel. Van Wyck’s latest venture is a line of salad dressings and mixes called Arrowhead Farms after the six-generation owned family farm in Arkansas where he spent his childhood.

A person I am professionally inspired by is…

Axel Vervoordt, who transforms spaces by returning them to their origins; Madonna, for her work ethic and her relentless commitment to quality; and Anna Wintour, who knows who she is and does more than she has to, and who never leaves a meeting without having made a decision.

Three words to describe my creative process are…

Whimsical, Curious and Thoughtful.

If I had two weeks completely off the grid, you’d find me…

On my farm in Arkansas or my shack at the beach or taking a class somewhere.

A signature Van Wyck & Van Wyck design element is…

No signatures! Our job is to help others create their signatures. We’re the elves behind-the-curtain, not the principals.

A recent challenge was…

Two guests, completely independently of each other, had medical emergencies just moments before a dramatic lead-in to a performance and the host’s big toast. We always have an EMT on hand, so our team immediately divided. One group created a field hospital backstage where we were able to stabilize the guests. Meanwhile, the producer on site adjusted the run-of-show so that no one knew anything was amiss, and the program proceeded smoothly just a few minutes behind schedule.

My most prized possession is…

My dog, Cat, and my cat, Maggie.

The project I am currently most excited about is…

A global economic conference combining tech, media, finance, and futurism; a Burning Man-themed party in Italy; a wedding on Aspen Mountain; and the 80th birthday party for the Apollo Theater.

Style means…

Self-confidence that doesn’t impose on others.

My favorite SUITE NY product is…

These beautiful salad servers by John Pawson inspire me to eat more greens.
