Who doesn’t love a good swivel chair? We certainly do. Designs that swivel exhibit a clear and desirable commitment to functionality and convenience—because the swivel allows you to utilize the space around it to the absolute fullest. Whether placed in a home office, lounge space, dining room, or elsewhere, any space can benefit from the ability to swivel. This week, we’re highlighting five beautiful designs that incorporate this wonderful feature, allowing you to optimize the swivel chair (or table!) in exciting and innovative ways.
Arne Jacobsen
Simply iconic, the Egg™ Chair is one of history’s best known furniture designs, a chair that epitomizes quintessential Danish design sensibilities while highlighting Arne Jacobsen’s enduring creative spirit—and of course, ingeniously incorporating swivel functionality. Initially designed in 1958 for the lobby and reception areas in the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, the Egg™ Chair draws from Jacobsen’s architectural expertise and his understanding of functional design. Because of the unique shape, the Egg™ allows privacy in public spaces and is ideal for lounge and waiting areas in addition to being a statement piece for the home – your own piece of design history.
Craig Bassam and Scott Fellows
The Spindle Stool flawlessly merges BassamFellows’ traditional, mid-century, and contemporary elements. The swivel stool features a solid wood ergonomic seat with a finely carved backrest and armrest, resting atop of metal spindles and legs that create a “weightless” quality. The Spindle stool makes an ideal addition to elegant kitchens, home bars, or restaurants. Seat, armrests, and back are available in carved solid walnut, oak, ash, or ebonized ash; metal legs are available in black powder coated steel, polished chrome, brushed nickel, or satin brass.
Pierre Sindre
The Dino enhances office environments with a meeting-room chair that looks inviting and offers exceptional comfort. With the Dino Chair, Garsnas is in its sweet spot, creating designs that are polished, and supremely comfortable and functional. Dino’s sleek base—available in lacquered steel in chrome, white, or black—contrasts with luxurious upholstery, defining a versatile swivel chair that is as refined as it is convenient. With its plush seat and elegant, curved silhouette, Dino is perfect for elevating your private workspace or conference room.
Keiji Takeuchi
Ripamonti evokes stylishness and sophistication the moment you see this beautiful swivel chair. Featuring rounded lines, this forward-thinking chair design sets the tone for the space that surrounds it. Ripamonti looks stunning on its own, and works even better as a pair, defining living and lounge spaces. Simple and unique, Ripamonti can modernize and reinvigorate your space, and is available with matching pouf.
Piero Lissoni
Glas Italia’s creative minds always find unexpected ways to impress even the most seasoned design-lover. In Lazy Hub, Italian designer Piero Lissoni references pop art from previous decades, with a table that feels reminiscent of a vinyl record. The tabletop integrates a rotating disc for serving food and drinks, perfectly recessed and flush in the center of the table.  The disc is available in a range of colors that allow you to channel your own personal taste. Lazy Hub fits beautifully into the contemporary home, and is an instant statement piece as a highly functional work of art.
