We are excited to announce that John Pawson’s Steak Knife has been awarded a Good Design Award 2013 by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum in the Tabletop category.
Among various products Pawson has created for Belgian home accessories manufacturer When Objects Work, the Steak Knife was developed in association with Japanese master knife makers KAI who specialize in Samurai swords. The seamless assimilation of Pawson’s contemporary vision and KAI’s age-old craftsmanship is reflected in the refinement of the finished object.
Pawson’s design takes contrasting conditions – curved and straight, matte and gloss – and though a series of refined junctions, achieves visual harmony.
The rich grain of the dark Macassar ebony handle is perfectly balanced by the characteristic organic patterning of the bright Damascus steel blade.
