When Daun Curry of Modern Declaration asked if we’d like to be involved in her project at Sotheby’s first ever Designer Showhouse, we jumped at the opportunity. Curry’s room is one of six curated spaces on the sixth floor of the auction house’s Manhattan headquarters, which incorporate such items from upcoming sales as English furniture, 20th-century design pieces, Impressionist prints, and ceramic and silver objets. In her space, complementing a Jean-Paul Cassigneul painting and a vintage Vladimir Kagan sofa, you’ll find SUITE NY’s new Ro chair by Jaime Hayon in a soft pink hue, our Pouf Capitonne by DePadova, and iconic pieces such as our Nagasaki chair, Young Lady chair and Arenzano Table Lamp.
In addition to the gorgeous art and furnishings, the room has some added sparkle. “In the final throws of such a long and brutal winter, I’ve been yearning for some spring colors,” says Curry. “I always like to use innovative materials and infuse a bit of glamour into my spaces, so I had an artist cover the walls with four pounds of commercial-grade eyeshadow.”
Curry has been honored as a four-time nominee for the prestigious Andrew Martin “Designer of the Year” Award and was named one of Vogue’s hottest new designers. Her impressive body of work includes renovating a residence at the historical Stanhope Hotel in New York City as well as designing beautiful private residences for clients in Manhattan, upstate New York and the Hamptons. Among her commercial clients are Finn Jewelry, beauty brand Moroccan Oil, and Stella & Dot.
The show is open at Sotheby’s in New York through March 30th, 2014.
