New-York-City-Architecture

While September belongs to all things fashion, October is all about honoring the importance of architecture and design in everyday life. For 31 days, “Archtober” celebrates the illustrious architecture and design that New York City is famous for.

Archtober, now in its third year, will host different events each day throughout the city including special tours, lectures, films and exhibitions. Over 50 organizations will be participating in this year’s celebration. “The many participating organizations aim to raise awareness of the important role of design in our city and to build a lasting civic and international recognition of the richness of New York’s built environment,” according to Archtober’s Mission Statement.

One event that we are particularly excited about is “West Side Story: The Evolution of Lincoln Center.”  John Kriskiewicz, Associate of the AIA, will guide participants on a walking tour of historic Lincoln Center and explore its transformation from a Robert Moses’ urban renewal project in the 1950’s, to its updated reimagining by Diller Scofidio + Renfro. SUITE New York is proud to have been a part of its transformation, as well, with aiding in the design of both the David Rubenstein Atrium and the American Table Cafe and Bar inside the lobby of Alice Tully Hall. The tour will be given on Saturday, October 5 2013 at 10:00 a.m.

Be sure to visit Archtober’s website for a full Calendar of Events.
