When 37-year-old Oki Sato launched studio Nendo ten years ago, who could have imagined he would become one of the most inspiring, prolific, and celebrated furniture and product designers of his generation. Nendo, meaning ‘modelling clay’, expresses Sato’s desire to have a certain flexibility and the ability to reinvent oneself. The studio, who has created works for SUITE NY brands DePadova, Glas Italia, Alias, and Foscarini, draws inspiration from Japanese uncluttered style to create a consistent visual language that is uniquely Nendo.
