The Art Deco movement of the 1920s and 1930s remains one of the most transformative artistic, architectural, and design movements in history. Designers like Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann, René-Jules Lalique, and Louis Süe and André Mare changed the conversation around furniture and buildings by creating works with dynamic character and defined personality, during a post-war period where art and design experienced a newfound appreciation. The buildings, furniture, and works of art that defined this period are still admired around the world today, and in the past decade, we’ve witnessed a resurgence of designers drawing from Art Deco influences. SPOTLIGHT ON POUL KJÆRHOLM

Poul Kjærholm was a Danish designer. Born in Østervrå, Denmark, Kjærholm began as a cabinetmaker's apprentice with Gronbech in 1948, going on to the Danish School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen in 1952. Over the course of the next three decades, Kjaerholm would become one of the most renowned designers in Danish history, creating countless iconic pieces and inspiring future generations of designers across the world. At SUITE NY, we’re proud to carry a wide range of Kjærholm’s most distinguished works, and this week we’re highlighting five designs that showcase the exceptional talent and influence of one of Denmark’s most esteemed designers and architects.
