40 Bond by Ian Schrager
Description 40 Bond, New York City Chris Kraig for SUITE New York Developer Ian Schrager asked Chris Kraig and SUITE New York to furnish an apartment for his new residential building 40 Bond. The building was the first New York City project for the Pritzker-award winning architects Herzog & de Meuron, and the apartment's interior was designed to complement the architcture's significance. In a space with floor-to-ceiling windows facing both north and south, a broad plane of solid walnut floor stretches from horizon to horizon. To maximize the sense of floating in the city skyline, Kraig used an all-white furniture scheme to reflect light and absorb the warm colors of the sun. On overcast days and at night, the white furnishings provide a striking sculptural contrast against the colorless sky. As the apartment is very open, the furniture arrangements created "rooms" within the open space.
